A Nitsche finite element method for dynamic contact : 2. Stability of the schemes and numerical experiments

چکیده
In a previous paper [4], we adapted Nitsche’s method for the approximation of the linear elastodynamic unilateral contact problem. The space semi-discrete problem was analyzed and some schemes (θ-scheme, Newmark and a new hybrid scheme) were proposed and proved to be well-posed under appropriate CFL conditons. In the present paper we look at the stability properties of the above-mentioned schemes and we achieve the corresponding numerical experiments. In particular we prove and illustrate numerically some interesting stability and (almost) energy conservation properties of Nitsche’s semi-discretization combined to the new hybrid scheme.

Vibration and Stability of Axially Moving Plates by Standard and Spectral Finite Element Methods
Based on classical plate theory, standard and spectral finite element methods are extended for vibration and dynamic stability of axially moving thin plates subjected to in-plane forces. The formulation of the standard method earned through Hamilton’s principle is independent of element type. But for solving numerical examples, an isoparametric quadrilateral element is developed using Lagrange ...

متن کاملSymmetric and non-symmetric variants of Nitsche's method for contact problems in elasticity: theory and numerical experiments
A general Nitsche method, which encompasses symmetric and non-symmetric variants, is proposed for frictionless unilateral contact problems in elasticity. The optimal convergence of the method is established both for two and three-dimensional problems and Lagrange affine and quadratic finite element methods. Two and three-dimensional numerical experiments illustrate the theory.
متن کاملA Nitsche-Based Method for Unilateral Contact Problems: Numerical Analysis
We introduce a Nitsche-based formulation for the finite element discretization of the unilateral contact problem in linear elasticity. It features a weak treatment of the non-linear contact conditions through a consistent penalty term. Without any additional assumption on the contact set, we can prove theoretically its fully optimal convergence rate in the H(Ω)norm for linear finite elements in...
متن کاملDynamic Response of the Coupled Vehicle-Floating Slab Track System using Finite Element Method
In present study, a mathematical model of the vehicle–floating slab track (FST) interaction is established to investigate the coupled behaviour of vehicle–track system. The FST is modelled as the double Euler -Bernoulli beam including the rail and slab. The railway vehicle is simplified as a multi-rigid-body model. The wheel–rail interface is treated using a nonlinear Hertzian contact model, co...
